While I go all out with outfits and daring accessories, when it comes to beauty I take a safer approach. My friend, Ro, is the complete opposite. She’s always up-to-date with the latest products, wildest beauty trends and daring challenges. So, I ask for her opinion often when it comes to beauty changes – from make-up blushes and tinted moisturizers to new hairstyles. She delivers 😀 Who would know better what’s essential this Spring for all of you? She agreed to spill her secrets on the recipe of a beautiful skin and healthy glow:
Although the weather is playing tricks on us, spring is just around the corner. But spring always comes with humidity and wind, alternating with sunny days, which can be really damaging for our skin.
I picked some spring essentials to help us going through this season change and keep the moisture level up:
Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 from Kiehl’s
As we are moving from winter to spring/summer, changing the classic moisturizer may be a good idea. Choosing a lighter texture and adding SPF is definitely a must on sunny days. This one has SPF 30 and a light, lotion-like texture.
PS: It comes in a bottle (75ml/125 ml), which makes it more hygienic than a jar – no contamination risk!
It claims a lot but does it deliver? I’ve been using it for a week and I pretty much love it: it gives me just the amount of hydration I need, as my skin is mixed to oily, and doesn’t become cloggy with make-up on. As well, it didn’t irritate my skin or trigger any kind of allergy. My skin seems to be happy with it.
Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado
Until a few months ago, I was totally ignoring my eye area where moisturizing is concerned. But when I started using a primer for my eye make-up, it became difficult to ignore the fact that my eyes were screaming for hydration!
So I looked for something light-wear yet really hydrating. Because I’m a Kiehls fan, I stopped by the store to pick up a gift for my boyfriend (it was around Christmas), and I found out this cream.
Just the word avocado turned me on! (really big fan of avocado in any form). I tried the texture, it was divine! It had a buttery texture that turned into watery when being rubbed. It’s bliss to come home, after a long day at work, and apply it to my eye area. I’m using q-tips to get the amount I need from the jar, as I hate sticking my finger into it.
Daily Reviving Concentrate
When I bought the moisturizer, the staff gave me a sample of their new face oil mix. It has a powerful blend of naturally-derived oils, including Ginger Root, Sunflower and Tamanu, to help skin feel fresh and look energized. It’s paraben free, 100% natural origin, Mineral oil free, Non-comedogenic, Non-acnegenic. Sounds great, but my skin is already oily, so instead of using this during the day, I left it for night after my cleansing routine.
In the morning, indeed, my skin looks brighter as if I slept a couple of hours extra!
The Crème de Corps Moisturizer is a Kiehl’s classic product, known for its rich texture. The product is quite great, it has no fragrance so it works great for a sensitive and dry skin like mine. The texture leaves the skin fresh and velvety.
The one that impressed me most was the Orange Flower & Lychee, from their Aromatic Blends. I have to say I fell in love with it, although I usually stick to non-fragrant lotions, but this one had no adverse reactions. It’s infused with an exotic blend of orange flower, from Morocco, lychee, vitamin E, and squalane (a botanical lipid that is similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids).
Now that our moisturizing ritual is complete, let’s add some colour, since Spring brings back all those wonderful colors of nature, doesn’t it?
After a long winter, I really feel like wearing colors, if not in my wardrobe, definitely in my make-up routine. Usually I’m the winged eyeliner and nude lips kind of girl. But I wore this look all winter, rocking it until it became my signature look. So now, while waiting for spring, I try to shake the melancholia off by adding a little color to my routine.
Too Faced Chocolate Bar
My favorite make-up product is definitely my Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette. This one has it all: from nudes to glam shades; it allows me to go from natural gal, to girly and even Hollywood glam. These days I love using “Strawberry bon bon” on the entire lid, followed by “Candied Violet” in the crease and adding a winged line using my angled brush and “Triple fudge”. It looks fresh, girly and for me, it screams “Spring is near!”.
Born Lippy – The Body Shop
For my lips, I usually stick to nudes and lip balms, my favorite is Born Lippy from Body Shop (I’ve been using it since I was 13, by far my first beauty product). During spring/summer season I love a little bit of color on my lips, but not too much. Just a creamy texture, which I like to apply with my fingers, YES!
Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip Balm
My crush now is the Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip balm, in Unapologetic. A matte lip balm seems like a unusual thing, huh? I thought so myself, but it’s actually a great idea, because I love matte lipsticks but they make my lips extremely dry 🙁 This one has great color, lovely texture and it’s not easily transferable.
Roller Lash by Benefit
I finish the whole look with two coats of my favorite mascara: Roller Lash by Benefit. I have no skills in putting mascara on, but ever since I discovered this one, it has been so easy to have those glam eyelashes!
I hope these tips have brought some inspiration for this new season, stay gorgeous!
