6 Outfit Ideas for Every Christmas Party You’ll Attend

Days are flying by and there’s almost no time to buy presents, make a reservation for New Year’s Eve and change outfits between Christmas parties. Especially if your plan is to postpone everything until Christmas Eve.

What I like to do is make a visual board in my head with what I could wear for such special occassions. I start with a basic question: what’s the dresscode? Is it a small gathering at your folks, a formal event at his parents, one occassion to impress his friends or a hangout party at both of your friends? Is it a casual thing or a Downton Abbey affair?

If you’re in your late 20s or early 30s and still in the first months of relationship, you want to look not only presentable, but fabulous at his parents’ dinner. You want to show you have a great sense of style but also of decency. So, cutting back on mini skirts and distressed jeans is the first step. Then, if you’re style veers to classy, office-ready, go for a red pencil skirt and white blouse, with black pumps. Add a precious, golden headband for that seasonal glow and a statement clutch in a bold color.

If you love romantic elements and 50s fashion, choose a velvet dress, paired with a statement necklace and black stilletto heels. Be a lady from head to toe.

You don’t have to try so hard at your parents’ home, of course. In fact, I always want to be as comfortable as I can there. Since home reminds me of many Christmas nights and fun times, I love to wear anything red. Maybe you don’t have a red sweater or pants in your closet, but surely own a red fun clutch or flats. Pair these with neutrals and warm knits.

If his 30-something friends invited you over at a Christmas cocktail, don’t go underdressed. It’s holiday season, so a bit of extravaganza won’t shock them as a total lack of it. Go for a sequined piece, be it a top, skirt or even dress. That being said, head-to-toe sequins or glitter are never a good idea. Tame the look with a knitted peplum sweater and work those animal print pumps.

A party at a Christmas pub is of course, a totally different setting. The rules above don’t apply anymore. In this case, you can show your badass side with a sexy, golden sheen top, black boots, statement cuff and cool watch. A skirt might be too much – I suggest skinnies.

You’ve made some mutual friends along the road and they’d love to have you over for some treats. Since your gals pull off all the stops in December, let your hair down too and your imagination run wild. Have fun with clothes and wear everything you LOVE but rarely have the chance to don. Go for that feathered skirt that reminds you off the 20s, show your sexy side in the lacy crop top! If you feel a bit shy, balance the outfit with a masculine blazer.

You’re spending Christmas at a mountin cabin? No worries! You can dress in jeans and a Christmas-y sweater that you packed. To elevate the look and make it more special, paint your nails ruby red and wear (for a couple of hours at least) heels! It will instantly make you feel sexier, even in that rustic environment.
