I have a short list of favorite designers. While I respect many, I feel like myself in creations from Isabel Marant, Olivier Rousteing, Alexander McQueen, Valentino (Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli), Jean Paul Gaultier. Even when I browse their collections, I can’t say I’d wear every item on the catwalk, blindfolded. It’s impossible to love every design, right?
Well, that’s what I used to think before I “met” Ralph & Russo in the digital world. It’a relatively young fashion house, born just ten years ago. In that amount of time though, it’s become the go-to place for breathtaking, unique creations. HH Princess Ameera al-Taweel of Saudi Arabia, Beyoncé, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Angelina Jolie are just a few of their clients.
After seeing their S/S 2017 haute couture collection, I understood why. There’s not a single design I don’t absolutely adore. I made the mistake of following them on Instagram and I have since increased their amounts of likes by the dozens. I think I’ve liked every post I’ve seen from them in my timeline, seriously. And I’m not the easiest user to cater to on social media, either. Ironically, I’m very reserved with my likes (as if I’m giving away money :)) I’m crazy and infuriating that way, I know).
Anyhoo, they have a way of mixing clean cuts with precious materials and stones that is simply irresistible to me. Tamara Ralph, co-founder and Creative Director, is an Australian thirty-something who has fashion in her blood. Her mother was a stylist, and her grandmother and great grandmother were couturiers – need I say more?!
Well, actually, I do. Her and her fiance’s fashion house, Ralph & Russo, has become the first British one to join the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in a century. This means they are the first designers born in Australia and established in Britain to show off their clothes at Paris Haute Couture Week in 100 years.
Yep, it’s okay to be impressed. If you live in London, go into Harrods to see their creations up close. If you live elsewhere, allow me to take you on a tour of their exquisite pieces – I even found my dream wedding dress among them (just scroll down to see which it is:)
Are you seeing this intricate work? That lace and embroidery is simply mesmerizing.
Here’s another one:
They’re not afraid of mixing difficult to pair materials and playing the 20s vibe, either:
Oh.. these layers, these layers are something else:
This geometrical gown is something I’d wear in a heartbeat:
Check this dress with cape – something I’d choose for a fairytale wedding:
… but as I can’t teleport myself in Once Upon A Time, I would definitely go for this modern, daring dress (it may not be intended for a bride, but I can’t think of a better occasion to wear it):
What’s even better than these dreamy gowns? Creations that can be wore at cocktails, dates and even work:
These are not bags and shoes – these are freakin’ jewels!
